Job Details Full-timeEstimated: $61,000 – $83,000 a year5 hours ago Qualifications – Teaching – Web accessibility – Communication skills – Teaching Certification – Curriculum development – Master’s degree Full Job Description SUMMARY: The Academic Coordinator of Online Learning serves in a full-time, 12-month staff position with oversight of online course development/design processes for Siena Heights University. The coordinator reflects an innovative and collaborative professional who interacts with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders to support and promote quality online teaching and learning. RESPONSIBILITIES: Guides and oversees instructional design support for Siena Heights University (SHU) full-time and adjunct faculty teaching online, hybrid, and remote courses including development of instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, and an appropriate blend of pedagogy and technology based on learning theory and instructional design practices. Collaborates with faculty university-wide to design and develop high-quality and innovative online programs, courses, certificates, and/or experiences. Works with faculty to understand needs and concerns and provides support as it relates to instructional design in online courses. Promotes and advises online course design and delivery standards to ensure compliance with Copyright, Fair Use, and Section 504/508 accessibility regulations. Serves as chair of the Online Learning Advisory Committee (OLAC). In collaboration with OLAC, the chair will create meeting agendas; provide documents for review and approval; propose amendments, as instructional and technology needs warrant, to SHU Online Teaching Standards for approval; organize the new online course development process and faculty peer-review processes; solicit and work with faculty who desire to take the OLAC Training course. The chair will report updates to TFA, and post minutes, documents, and resources on the committee’s site in Canvas. Manages and implements instructional design projects from inception to completion. Designs online content and integrates educational technologies, in coordination with the Canvas Administrator, via the university’s LMS to promote effective teaching strategies and to improve student learning experiences. Coordinates the review of online, hybrid, and remote courses to ensure they are aligned with SHU Online Teaching Standards. Coordinates the registration process for SHU’s Online Teaching Certification (OTC) training course with SHU’s Canvas Coordinator and OTC instructors. Collaborates with the VP of Academic Affairs, the Academic Team, and SHU faculty to coordinate, develop, and monitor an evolving portfolio of in-house and externally promoted professional development trainings in online teaching and learning. In partnership with internal and external stakeholders, participates in promoting, recruiting, and offering the OTC training course to external university and business partners and individuals. Collates online evaluation summaries for off-campus undergraduate and graduate programs and disseminates to program directors and program coordinators. Provides a summary of evaluation statistics and student feedback to academic deans. Serves on several university committees to support, enhance, and champion SHU online teaching and learning. Provides leadership and instructional support in promoting effective online learning pedagogies at SHU. Conducts and disseminates scholarly research regarding online teaching and learning to enhance community awareness and dialogue. Actively participates in professional memberships, such as the Online Learning Consortium and other organizations, to build peer networks, enhance professional development, and stay abreast of current online teaching and learning trends, research, and events. Maintains a minimum teaching load of one course (or other, deemed equivalent) per academic year to support professional development and stay abreast of instructional design and digital technologies. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. All other duties as assigned by the supervisor. REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree required in Educational Leadership, Instructional Design, Curriculum Design, Education Technology, or related field. Experience in online teaching at the university level required including evidence of online teaching excellence. Evidence of experience of the latest research and best practices for online learning, teaching, curriculum, accessibility, and evaluation and assessment. Knowledge and application of adult learning theory preferred. Substantive experience with a learning management system (LMS) preferably Canvas. Three to five years minimum work experience with an LMS that includes instructional design and curriculum development. Web development skills (including HTML coding, multimedia production) strongly preferred. Effective project management skills to ensure timely completion of a wide array of projects, instructional design support requests, and other requests or matters. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, community, and external constituents. Must possess a positive demeanor and serve as an equal contributor in promoting and sustaining a supportive and welcoming team and community atmosphere. Experience with using virtual meeting and presentation tools, such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom for meetings, presentations, and other virtual events. Ability to work independently, and adapt to changes in priorities, scheduling, and personalities. Ability to initiate tasks with little or no direction.
