Taft Middle School is looking for a Head Counselor I to work with a vibrant, diverse group of scholars in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. This position will be the lead facilitator for grade level teams, lead facilitator for academic and social interventions, as well as lead facilitator for our college-going culture initiative. We are looking for a self-starter who has experience with culturally responsive teaching and pedagogy. We are also looking for a candidate who is familiar with Restorative Justice practices, such as, Restorative Circles. This candidate must have a strong knowledge of Socio-Emotional Programs and must have experience in the successful implementation of SEL programs.
Examples of Duties
During online learning, our Head Counselor I will make contact with students to check on wellness. Our Head Counselor will hold virtual office hours to connect with students as well as continue virtual college going culture informational sessions. Our Head Counselor will assist with academic interventions after grading periods and is the lead for 504’s.
During in person learning, our Head Counselor will assist students with conflict resolution, will support academic learning and social emotional well being during office hours. Our Head Counselor I works with our families on a regular basis to help with adolescent issues and concerns.
Qualified applicants must have a valid California Pupil Personnel Services credential in Counselinga and 3 to 5years of experience as a school counselor, preferrably in a middle school setting. Applicants credential must be attached to their application and registered with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing by the close of the posting.
Applicants who have experience working with diverse population and knowledge of restorative justice pedagogy is preferred. Bilingual applicants are also preferred.
Applicants must have a valid California driver’s license and be prepared to conduct, participate in, and travel to sites, professional development sessions, workshops, and meetings.
