Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking applicants for the position of Manager, Network Operations. The position reports to the Director of Telecommunications, Networking, and Audiovisual technologies and is responsible for leading the network team in the analysis, design, implementation, operation, deployment, and support of the university data network and data center. This includes development of network strategies, planning and policies, project and end user support, training and supervision of network team members.
Essential Functions

Essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
1. Manage day-to-day operations of the university wired and wireless data network.
2. Develop strategies, planning, and policies for network operations & maintenance.
3. Supervise Network Operations staff. Includes developing and communicating expectations, mentoring, assessing performance, making pay recommendations, and devising and monitoring development plans.
4. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current networking technologies, trends, and infrastructure.
5. Maintain current knowledge of university network design and functionality, and make recommendations on enhancements, new solutions, or other changes as appropriate.
6. Develop and implement effective processes and procedures to ensure network systems and operations are functioning at a high level in terms of dependability, efficiency, and quality of service. Develop business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
7. Manage outside network engineering consulting services contract, providing oversight, guidance, and IT coordination for major projects.
8. Manage both complex and routine networking projects. Frequently interface with consultants and constituents, including management and internal team members to ensure quality, timeliness, and testing of all project work.
9. Maintain a thorough understanding of network service offerings and billing rates while working directly with customers and OIT financial staff.
10. Maintain internal and external customer relationships in support of network services.

Education Level Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Field of Study

Business Administration, Management, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or IT related field.
Years of Experience Five (5) or more years of experience
Area of Experience

Technical experience in network operations with knowledge of project and operations management to include team leadership skills including motivating team and group processes, team collaboration, empowering, coaching, mentoring, training, ethical integrity, championing diversity and inclusiveness, and supervising staff. Ability to translate specific strategic information into operational programs. Industry related skills to include knowledge of the IT industry and trends, and knowledge of IT security regulations.

Knowledge of information technology principles and applications, network management methodologies and new technologies. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Desired Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of networking technologies/topologies and network management experience. Networking and network security certifications. Three (3) or more years of managerial/supervisory experience.
