Job description

Then the Mobile Career Counselor and Program Specialist position is for you!

This position will provide support to Lancaster County youth and will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating strategic workforce development programming specific to funding and age group guidelines. This position will be responsible for providing career readiness workshops, presentations, additional resources related to career and college exploration and planning, as well as communicating the services available through PA CareerLink. The staff member will be responsible for maintaining a caseload of students who enroll in programming.

The individual in this role will work closely with partners and schools and will be the main staff member responsible for the Career, College, and Community Connections Stipend-based Career Exposure Program that serves Lancaster County youth ages 12-15. This position will support participants in building awareness about the variety of careers and career pathways available and the role of post-secondary education and training in meeting their goals. In addition, the individual will provide the same support to participants in regards to progressing up a career ladder, as well as develop their interpersonal skills through project-based learning. This oversight includes coordinating program activities for, recruiting and enrolling eligible program participants, tracking and monitoring individual participant progress, awarding stipends, facilitating end of program presentations, and tracking/presenting data.

Essential Functions:

  • Create material that may be presented in person and virtually to various schools related to career readiness, career path planning, and career and college exposure
  • Perform intentional outreach to area school districts and partners, with the goal of marketing the Lancaster County Youth program and all other PA CareerLink related services available
  • Assess personal characteristics, skills, interests and developmental needs via assessment, individual interviews and/or group work and provide consistent, comprehensive, and age appropriate career advisement to facilitate successful completion of the program
  • Identify and provide interventions and/or connections to community resources addressing barriers
  • Coordinate and provide direct case management services, build comprehensive case files and appropriately track target goals and data to include enrollments, and percentage of successful program completions, participant information including characteristics and demographic information, milestone completion information and proof, distribution of stipend awards, pre and post program assessment quantitative and qualitative results and provide weekly progress and end of program reports
  • Work with businesses, partners, and experts to coordinate and develop career exposure, workforce readiness, and interpersonal developmental activities, workshops, and milestones to fit into program structure
  • Work with local institutions of higher learning to identify potential training options, open house opportunities and other activities that students would benefit from
  • Work collaboratively with the school district and partner personnel to develop referral sources, soft hand off, and communication processes
  • Provide advice on resume building, interview preparation, and career path planning
  • Remain current with information about career pathways, training routes, professional regulation and the local job market
  • Provide orientation information to participants about PA CareerLink® services and the services of other agencies and organizations
  • Ensure that positive outcomes and goals are met as required
  • Prepare activity reporting summarizing accomplishments, issues, and upcoming activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Exemplary presentation skills and passion for presenting to large and small groups of all ages through virtual platforms and in person
  • Experience in curriculum development, specifically in regards to career readiness and career and college exploration
  • Experience in workforce development strongly preferred
  • Experience working with youth and young adults, middle and early high school aged preferred
  • Case Management experience preferred
  • Experience working with unemployed, underemployed, and individuals with barriers or other economically-disadvantaged populations
  • Have a passion for helping others and must be able to work with people of all races, ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and document all aspects of services provided
  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills
  • Program development experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated communication, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • State Criminal Background, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprint clearances required
  • A valid driver’s license and automobile required

This position is a temporary contract until June 30, 2021 with a possibility for extension.
