Admissions & Recruitment
Salary Range: $4,304 – $6,120 / Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Thursday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm; Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; some evenings and weekends; exempt classification; temporary position, expires on or before one year from start date; may become permanent.
Essential Functions: Under the direction of the Associate Director of Recruitment, the incumbent is responsible for: providing information regarding California State University admission policy and requirements; developing relationships with prospective students, parents, campus stakeholders; encouraging qualified students to apply and enroll; visiting schools for group presentations, assisting prospective students, meeting counselors and other school staff; representing the University at college nights, college fairs and career day events, virtual activities and other recruitment and enrollment related activities; providing unofficial transcript review when appropriate; advising clients on appropriate major based on interest, experience, personal circumstances, and previous academic records; implementation of all recruitment activities (visits, college fairs, presentations, and other traditional and non-traditional recruitment opportunities) at assigned schools/regions; providing counseling to prospective applicants and parents on admission requirements, university policies, majors, careers, costs, financial aid, and special programs; providing quality customer service to students, parents, and counselors with Cal State LA-related matters; researching and responding to inquiries; assisting with resolution of concerns, hiring, training, and providing work direction of student ambassador staff placed at local schools; assisting in the development of a comprehensive training program for ambassador staff as well as on-going staff development; serving as liaison for high schools and community colleges, College Board, California State University initiatives, and other campus stakeholders; planning and coordination of special events such as preview days, counselor conferences, counselor workshops, yield activities, and other events; corresponding and conducting continuous awareness through telephone, letter, e-mail, social media campaigns, and in-person meetings to increase enrollment yield.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis. Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for future growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. The incumbent must demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills, and ability to speak in public forums and conduct presentations. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position. As part of the interview process, candidates will be asked to complete an assessment.
Desired Qualifications: Be able to communicate, present, and speak fluently in English and Spanish. Direct experience working with the recruitment of underrepresented student populations; multiple constituencies including students of color, underrepresented students, and/or undocumented students.
