The Department of Community Supervision (DCS) was created by HB310 in the 2015 Legislative Session. As part of the executive branch of Georgia’s government, the Department of Community Supervision (DCS) is responsible for the supervision of approximately 180,000 adult felony offenders and Class A and Class B designated juvenile offenders. It is our mission to protect and serve all Georgia citizens through effective and efficient offender supervision in our communities, while providing opportunities for successful outcomes.
Responsibilities for this position will include:
Under broad supervision, provides rehabilitation counseling services, referral services, and resident evaluation to assigned clients. Conducts interviews of assigned clients to identify problems, assess mental and educational status, and select applicable programs. Mentors lower level counselors. May serve as lead worker. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision, Serves as job expert or organization resources in assigned areas, collects and assesses in- depth information about a clients’s situation and functioning in order to assess his/her abilities, needs, and eligibility for services, conducts interviews to identify problems, assess mental and educational status and select applicable programs, coordinates discharge plan in cooperation with team, clients, and their families, counsels clients with disabilities, including vocational and psychosocial adjustment counseling throughout the rehabilitation process, develops and provides staff development training, identifies and develops prospective employment opportunities through assistive technology and job modification methods, interprets educational, vocational and/ or psychological test in accordance with guidelines, Observes rules of confidentiality as stated by departmental guidelines in the dissemination and interpretation of tests results,provides a consistent level of counseling and guidance to clients, provides information to educate the public, other agencies, vendors, and potential customers about rehabilitation services, serves as mentor to other counselors, new supervisors, and staff.
Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR One year of experience at the lower level Behavioral Hlth Counselor 1 (HCP100) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require certification or licensure.
