Applicants for this position must possess the following qualifications:
- 1-3 years of schooling after high school
- Experience in automotive servicing
- A valid commercial driver’s license (minimum of class B) with Tanker endorsement
- Minimum Class “C” Underground Storage Tank certificate with-in 6 months of hire
The Shop/Building Attendant will primarily work Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. This position’s hourly range is $19.23 to $22.62 per hour, non-exempt.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Perform basic automotive and equipment repair and maintenance.
Assist all personnel in the fleet maintenance department.
Schedules oil and filter changes, maintenance, washes and cleans various vehicles and equipment.
Visually inspects vehicles and equipment for required repairs. Sanitation and pertinent vehicles nightly.
Checks all vehicles for oil, anti-freeze, hydraulic fluid and flat tires
Change and balance tires.
Performs general janitorial services, which includes but is not limited to cleaning, maintaining City Services Building(s), offices, storage, shop and restroom areas, etc.
Performs routine maintenance on building mechanical systems.
Maintain cleaning materials inventory, fuel inspection records and prepare reports or work orders.
Regular attendance, punctuality, and on-call response for emergencies is required.
Lock down and secure City Services building, out buildings, and any vehicles outside for the night.
Perform other Public Works tasks as assigned by the Public Works Superintendent.
Perform other maintenance / Shop tasks as assigned by the Public Works Fleet Superintendent.
Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Answers telephone and records calls.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school degree or equivalent and a combination of one to three years of schooling and experience in automotive servicing.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- A valid commercial driver’s license (minimum of class B) with Tanker endorsement
- Minimum Class “C” Underground Storage Tank certificate with-in 6 months of hire

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of typical mechanic tools and equipment in the servicing of automotive small equipment and building mechanical systems. Typical mechanical tools may include but are not limited to shop small hand tools, tire changer / balancer, power tools, grinders and drill presses. Requires the ability to operate standard business machines, such as a computer, job related software, keyboard, calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier, etc.
Ability to work in a safe manner.
Ability to work on own with little supervision, and to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
